The Story Behind Square One

The motivation behind the creation of Square One stems from years of collecting and appreciating "slow fashion". During our high school days, Evan and I got into reselling vintage clothing to get by. We turned our passions into a collective in college when we started to do pop-ups in Evans garage in 2020. In the next few years, our garage sales started to get bigger and bigger leading us to do events in downtown Cedar Falls with other vintage vendors from across Iowa and even landing an opportunity to host an event at Single Speed Waterloo. One day Evan and I took a drive downtown where we ran into the location where we are currently located with a "For Lease" sign in the window. We gave the number a call and set up an appointment to take a look at the space. We both thought to ourselves that it was perfect. The next couple of weeks we started to crunch numbers and figure out the logistics of how actually to open a business. A few stressful weeks later Square One was beginning to come together. The idea of Square One wasn't a long-planned one but more of a vision pursued at the moment. Two and a half years later we couldn't be more proud of where we have come and what we can provide for the people of the Cedar Valley.
